The Cart Shed

A 2 bedroom barn conversion situated on the Eastern side of the picturesque river Wye

The Location

The word ‘picturesque’ was first introduced into English culture in 1782 by William Gilpin, describing his ‘Observations on the River Wye’ to the new leisure traveller.

That same Wye Valley is now the only Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) that straddles both England and Wales, running from just south of Hereford, to Chepstow, covering 326 square miles.

The Cart Shed holiday let sits almost exactly in the middle of the AONB on a Welsh outcrop on the English (Eastern) side of the Wye, on the western edge of the Royal Forest of Dean.

It lies on the Peregrine Path (Sustrans Route 423), 2 miles from Monmouth and 3 miles from Symonds Yat, on the banks of the River Wye with easy access to canoeing, paddle boarding, wild swimming and fishing.

Lying within the Welsh Marches, an area steeped in history with its many castles, forts and historic monuments, local to the Offa’s Dyke Path, Wye Valley Walk and Wysis Way. Bordering the Royal Forest of Dean, an area also criss-crossed with many footpaths and cycle routes.

The Cart Shed is a stand alone, 2 bedroom, single storey agricultural conversion adjacent to the owners barn conversion.

The Property

The Cart Shed Views

The Cart Shed lies at the end of a half mile of private track, surrounded by farmland and with panoramic views of the surrounding woodland. It’s seclusion attracting a variety of wildlife including badgers, deer, owls, song birds, birds of prey and the occasional wild boar.

The entire single level, with no internal steps, not even into the shower, was intended to be ‘wheelchair sympathetic’. With natural stone flooring, it is kept homely and warm with a wood burning stove and underfloor heating throughout.

The Cart Shed Living Dining Area

A sliding door from the patio leads into the main lounge area, with it’s two sofas, wood burning stove, TV with surround sound and DVD player. This door also gives a panoramic view of the surrounding farmland and the spectacular Wyastone Leys building, the birth place of the CD.

The dining table extends to accommodate 4 adults. Highchair is available on request as is a travel cot, but please bring your own sheets and quilt.

The kitchen is well equipped for your self catering holiday, with an electric built-in double oven, gas hob, dishwasher and fridge freezer, as well as essentials such as toaster, kettle, microwave, cutlery and crockery. For your safety, there is a fire extinguisher, fire blanket and first aid kit.
